Our Founders

Michel Löwy

Michel Löwy

Mr. Lowy co-founded SC Lowy in 2009. Distressed, special situations and private credit investing has been the focus of his entire career spanning more than 25 years. Before launching SC Lowy,

Mr. Lowy founded Deutsche Bank’s distressed and strategic investments group for Asia Pacific in 1999. Based in Singapore, New York and lastly Hong Kong, he built and led a dominant Asia-focused proprietary trading and investment team over the span of 10 years, while later adding Latin America to his mandate.

He was a member of DB’s Asia Executive Committee. Prior to his leadership role at Deutsche Bank, he was a member of Cargill’s Value Investment Group from 1996 to 1999. Originally based in London, Michel relocated to Singapore in 1997 at the start of the Asian Financial Crisis to establish the Value Investment Group’s presence in Asia and begin the hunt for distressed opportunities. There he invested in the first wave of Japanese, Korean, Indonesian and Thai non-performing loans. Mr. Lowy started his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Brussels, Belgium in 1993.

Mr. Lowy supports various worthwhile charitable causes including EMpower, The Cambodian Children’s Fund and UN Watch. Mr. Lowy graduated with a B.A. in Business Engineering from Solvay Business School (1993) and is a certified European Financial Analyst (1995).

Soo Cheon Lee

Soo Cheon Lee

Mr. Soo Cheon Lee co-founded SC Lowy in 2009 and is the firm’s Chief Investment Officer with over 30 analysts, sourcers and traders under his tutelage.

Mr. Lee has deep experience investing in private credit, special situations, hard assets and distressed non-performing loan portfolios across Asia, inclusive of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand since 1997.

He has been recognized internationally as an expert in the shipping sector and was instrumental in restructuring Korea Line (now SM Line) and Pan Ocean (orchestrating Korea’s first DIP financing). Prior to founding SC Lowy, Mr. Lee was a Managing Director and Head of Research and Trading at Deutsche Bank’s distressed and strategic investments group for Asia Pacific, a group he founded alongside Mr. Lowy in 1999.

Previously, Mr. Lee was a senior research analyst at Cargill’s Value Investment Group, based in Singapore.

Soo Cheon holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota and is a US Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He and Mr. Lowy are one of, if not, the longest tenured investment duos continually active in Asian stressed, distressed, special situations, event driven and private credit investing, having done so since 1997.

Jamie Tadelis

Jamie Tadelis

Jamie is one of the co-founders of SC Lowy. He is currently focused on Business Development and is based in our New York office. He previously held a variety of roles within the firm including Head of Sales, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer, all located in Hong Kong.  Prior to joining SC Lowy, Jamie was General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and a member of the Investment Committee of Abax Global Capital, a Hong Kong based special situations asset manager.  Prior to Abax, he was a member of Avenue Capital Group’s Asia-focused investment team in New York and then Hong Kong where he provided legal structuring expertise and helped navigate investments through various bankruptcy and restructuring regimes across APAC.  While in New York, Jamie was a restructuring attorney at Kramer Levin and he began his career at JPMorgan in emerging markets structured products.  He holds a BA with a concentration in MIS from the State University of New York at Albany, and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
